Like Wine

I have a fascination and a slight hobby for wine. It started during my college days, and I’m always on the lookout for wines that give you value for your money.

Don’t be intimidated, wine does not have to be expensive for you to appreciate a good bottle. I have tasted bottles below P400 and they are pretty good.

Don’t be afraid to ask. Ask for a recommendation in the price range that you want. In decent or reputable wine stores, at least in most cases, the staff or better yet the owner will give you gems of wisdom.

There are no rules. All that matters is that you love the wine that you’re drinking and it was worth the money that you paid for. Drink it with anything as long as it’s with good food and great company.

I love Merlot and there’s always pleasure and satisfaction in finding that Merlot bottle that gives you the bang for your buck. It is like my personal treasure hunt of sorts.

I brought up the topic of wine because I would like to share with you a piece of writing that was given to me and until now, amazes me.

The piece was very timely and appropriate. It was given to me by the writer at the time when I started getting involved with wine and I had an absurd hunger for information for it. It was, I believe, the height and pinnacle of our passion, obsession, our understanding, and our love for each other.

It was uncanny how the writer and the piece used my passion for wine and put into words a translation of my past state of mind, how I felt, how she felt, our history, and our end.

Like wine
I succumb to your taste
I succumb to your craving, to your passion
For a love that has often been left misunderstood

Like wine
I come to you
Long hidden and kept secret
Never been touched, never been tasted
Enriched by time but not by experience
You’ve tasted before
But not of my kind
You’ve been drunk before
But not with mine
For reasons you have chosen to forget

Like wine
Difficult to comprehend
Yet easy to indulge
Sweet, dry, bitter, warm, cold, dark, light…
Different every time
But always sharp to the senses
Always intoxicating the mind and soul
Always with a spirit that dares to escape
But in you finding shelter
You thought I was made from something different
From something far away
Something out of your fantasy worlds
Worlds of your great escape
Yet all I know is I was made for you

Like wine
I hunger to be inside you
Inside your mind and soul
To think what you do and feel what you do
To enter into your world
To find my place within
The way you have trespassed mine
Like wine in clear crystal glass
Beyond the colors, no matter how dark the tint
You see through me but not all of me
I continue to taunt what you see
And to tease what you wish to see

But like wine
You may taste, you may indulge
Yet you will never fully fathom everything there is to be
And that is how I want things to always be

Like wine
with you my drinker
Who awakens and ripens my essence
In your adoration I find my security
In your passion I find my warmth
In your eyes I find my worth
In your love I find my own
Love is drunkenness
But the pain will keep us sober
Let happiness go beyond pleasure
Let love go beyond passion
Let forgiveness go beyond mistakes
But never let me go beyond what your arms can reach

Like wine
With the taste lingering as long as the first kiss
Mine was not your first
Then let me be your last
But if fate let things not be
Then at least let mine be the reason in your mind
For your last sip of wine.
